These comprehensive universities offer graduate degrees in fields such as liberal arts, engineering, medicine, business, and law. For smaller colleges with more of an undergraduate focus, check out the list of top liberal arts colleges. Listed alphabetically, these ten universities have the reputations and resources to rank them among the best in the country and are often some of the hardest colleges to get into.
Graduate Student: Professors and advisers are extremely helpful, very specific and specialized degree fields! I was able to get a full time job in my field right after receiving my bachelors degree from the Daytona campus then almost immediately started on my Master's work. Its an expensive school, but the return on your investment will be well worth it.
UPenn is located in Philadelphia, a city with a lot to do, whether the goal is leisure and entertainment or career advancement and research for a project. But the campus itself is beautiful and busy enough to trap you. There is always something going on, especially if you commit to activities and clubs that interest you. And lastly, everything from your classmates to the professor bring alive that feeling that gives UPenn its cannon as an Ivy League; beyond academic excellence, its people are friendly, intellectually curious, driven, and serviceable, willing to share their passions and desire to grow with others.
Freshman: So glad I chose to come to Bowdoin! A very close community where people treat each other with kindness and are excited to learn from their peers. Quality of life is great, with great dorms, food and surrounding area. Classes are challenging but there is very little competitiveness and lots of support for students academically. For a small liberal arts school, there is a very healthy and fun social life.

What benefits students most is to consider their niche in order to find a college environment that best suits their goals and personality, from the size of the school, flexibility of the curriculum, culture of the neighboring community, type of specialized programs, number of research and intern opportunities, options for graduate school, and access to alumni. Private schools often offer smaller class sizes, professor-led mentorship, customizable curriculum, merit aid and other benefits. All these factors combine to give students a wide range of options from some of the best academic programs in Florida.
Today’s graduates, more than ever before, also venture out on their own to create a career. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports more than 15.5 million people (10% of the workforce) are self-employed across a variety of occupations, with Florida’s self-employment rate equal to the national average. Add to this a continued trend in remote employment and the job opportunities expand even more.
In the U.S. News & World Report and other national rankings, Princeton University frequently vies with Harvard for the top spot. The schools, however, are very different. Princeton's attractive 500-acre campus is located in a town of about 30,000 people, and the urban centers of Philadelphia and New York City are each about an hour away. With just over 5,000 undergrads and about 2,600 grad students, Princeton has a much more intimate educational environment than many of the other top universities.
Alum: I attended the University of Pennsylvania as an exchange student during the 2017-2018 academic year. It is one of the most meaningful years of my time as a college undergraduate. I want to cite three reasons why I consider UPenn a very good university; its location and campus, its resources and extracurricular, and its prestigious academic atmosphere.
Hanover, New Hampshire, is the quintessential New England college town, and Dartmouth College surrounds the attractive town green. The college (really a university) is the smallest of the Ivies, yet it can still boast of the type of curricular breadth we find at the other schools on this list. The atmosphere, however, has more of a liberal arts college feel than you'll find at any of the other top universities.
Cappex.com, a free website that connects students with colleges and scholarships, studied college search behavior by the more than a million students that use their platform to search for colleges each year. Cappex found that while Ivy-league name recognition is high on the list for high school freshmen when they first think about college, students become more in tune with other factors by the time senior year rolls around. In addition to academics, geography and being close to family rank high on the list for seniors searching for a college and are two big reasons Florida is a popular choice. Moderate sunny weather is a huge attraction for students and if extended family or grandparents live in Florida to provide support and connection to home, all the better.
Sophomore: The culture at Rice is amazing! We are a diverse community of scholars who value collaboration, not cut-throat competition. We value what known as a "culture of care," and I believe this makes us unique from all other elite schools. The professors are amazing, classes push you and challenge former beliefs, and the community becomes family. Rice University is an amazing place, even with intense academics.
Freshman: I love Notre Dame! It's a beautiful place, inside and out. We've got all sorts of clubs, students and academic interests. Personally, I am very pleased with the Mass and Sacrament availability as well as all the Catholic-related activities. Of course, not everybody is Christian; Notre Dame is a home for all. I've already found some solid friends with whom I enjoy spending these cold (and warm) Indiana days. ND meets 100% of financial need; this assistance extends beyond tuition and has allowed me to get the full Notre Dame Experience. Everyone here is passionate about something, and one passion we all share is a love for Notre Dame, Our Mother. Go Irish!
Cornell has the largest undergraduate population of all the Ivies, and the university has strengths in a broad range of disciplines. You need to be willing to tolerate some cold winter days if you attend Cornell, but the location in Ithaca, New York, is beautiful. The hillside campus overlooks Lake Cayuga, and you'll find stunning gorges cutting through the campus. The university also has the most complex administrative structure among the top universities since some of its programs are housed within a state-funded statutory unit.
Randy is all about business and baseball. His love for both started at Florida Tech. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1978, and he went on to earn his MBA in 1980. As a four-year letterman in baseball, Muns’s love for the game was evidenced by his generous support for the new baseball field, Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field, and his lead gift that helped Florida Tech reach its fundraising goal to light the baseball field. Randy also serves on Florida Tech’s Board of Trustees. Randy began his career in the aerospace and defense business at Bell Helicopter, TEXTRON, and General Dynamics. He became a principal/partner with Author Young in their special services and technology consulting group.
